LAGUNA NIGUEL — A woman was seriously injured Saturday when a car sideswiped the tandem bicycle she and her husband were riding, impaling her on the handlebars.
Marie Kamnikar, 63, of Laguna Niguel and her husband were on Camino Capistrano on their tandem bike about 10:45 a.m. when a sedan grazed them.
The driver, identified as a 74-year-old woman, apparently did not know she had hit the bike and continued driving.
Sheriff’s deputies located the driver at a San Juan Capistrano shopping center and interviewed her. No arrests have been made, but deputies are investigating the incident, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Paddock said.
Kamnikar was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo. Her condition was not immediately available late Saturday. Paddock said he wasn’t sure whether Kamnikar’s husband was injured.
