Flyers Rally Late and Tie Capitals, 3-3

After giving up three goals in less than two minutes Saturday night, the Philadelphia Flyers figure they could have folded.
Instead, John Druce scored to pull them within one goal and Rod Brind’Amour had a goal with 43 seconds to play in the third period to give the Flyers a 3-3 tie with the Washington Capitals at Philadelphia.
“It shows a lot that we didn’t give up,” said Philadelphia left wing John LeClair, who had a goal and an assist. “We had to accept it. It was done with and we had to move on. You can’t dwell on it.”
It was the Flyers’ first game since their 17-game unbeaten streak was stopped Thursday night by Tampa Bay.

Defenseman Vlastimil Kroupa’s power-play goal in the third period gave San Jose a 2-1 victory over Edmonton. Kroupa, playing his sixth game for San Jose, fired a low shot from the blue line that went past goalie Curtis Joseph, who was screened on the play. Both of Kroupa’s goals have come on power plays. . . . Goalie Ed Belfour ended a personal 10-game winless streak, stopping 32 shots and Chicago defeated slumping Detroit, 3-1, at Detroit. . . . Scott Thornton, Mark Recchi, Benoit Brunet and Stephane Richer scored during a three-minute span of the second period and Montreal rallied from a two-goal deficit and defeated Boston, 6-3, in Montreal. . . . Igor Ulanov’s shot from the left point completed a two-goal third-period comeback and Tampa Bay tied the New York Islanders, 4-4, at Tampa, Fla. . . . Pittsburgh tied Ottawa, 3-3, at Kanata, Ontario, as the Penguins extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games. Rookie goalie Patrick Lalime has gone 13 games without a loss. . . . Adam Deadmarsh’s goal with 1:31 to play in the third period gave Colorado a 3-2 victory over host Toronto. . . . Ray Sheppard had a goal and an assist and goalie John Vanbiesbrouck stopped 40 shots as Florida beat Calgary, 4-1, at Calgary. Thomas Fitzgerald scored his seventh goal and Sheppard scored his 18th to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the first period.
