Great Outdoors Rollin’ Along the River

Warren River Expeditions, which is located in Salmon, Idaho, features a number of outdoor adventure activities at a 10% discount off regular rates for those over 50. The area around Salmon is pristine, and it’s possible to see deer, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, eagles, osprey or river otter. Depending on the trip selected, lodging will be either in spacious canvas tents or in rustic lodges with bathrooms. Meals are prepared each day on site. There are a series of four trip options: (prices are before 10% discount):

* Six-day raft trip--$1,175. June 20, 28; July 6, 14, 22, 30; and Aug. 7.

* Six-day kayak trip--$975. Same dates as raft trip.

* Six-day lodge trip--$1,450. April 10, 17 and 24; May 1; Aug. 15, 23 and 31; and Sept. 8.

* Six-day steelhead fishing trip--$1,400. March and October trips are available.

Senior Ventures, based at Southern Oregon State College (SOSC) in the city of Ashland, is offering seniors a travel program and classes on campus. Ashland is located at the south end of the Rogue River Valley, 14 miles north of the California border.The city is noted for its annual Shakespeare festival.

The Senior Ventures travel program this year is called Springtime in Central Texas, held April 6 to 15, for a cost of $879 per person, double occupancy, including lodging, most meals and excursions. Transportation to Texas is not included.

Classes on campus include:

* “Elder or Older: The Spiritual Seasons of Our Lives,” Nov. 9 to 15--lectures, classes and debate for one week on views of aging in different religions. Program fee $390, single room $50 extra. Transportation to Oregon is not included.

* Bridge and Theater--Aug. 10 to 16; Aug. 17 to 23; and Aug. 24 to 30. Participants take classes in the card game bridge and drama. Prices for these dates are $485. Add $50 for a single room. Transportation to Oregon is not included.

* Advanced Bridge and Theater--Oct. 27 to Nov. 5 has a $710 program fee. Add $70 for a single room.

All meals and off-campus activities are included. Tickets to several Shakespeare plays also are included.
