Jim R. Mellor has been named to the board of directors at Pinkerton’s Inc.

Mellor is the chief executive of General Dynamics, the large defense contractor based in Falls Church, Va. He is scheduled to retire from his executive post at General Dynamics in May, 1997.

Pinkerton’s, based in Encino, is a major security services company with 220 offices in the U.S. and overseas.

* Ronald L. Havner Jr. was named chairman and chief executive officer of American Office Park Properties, operator of Van Nuys-based Public Storage Inc.’s commercial properties.

Havner was Public Storage’s senior vice president and chief financial officer. John Reyes, Public Storage’s controller, will take his place.

* Jill Smith Shanbrom was elected to the Ojai Valley Museum board of trustees to coordinate the duties of the program and exhibit committee. During the recent museum move and expansion, Shanbrom helped develop a number of projects.

In addition to her museum responsibilities, she is a landscape designer, board member of the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy and member of Ojai Valley Re-leaf.

* Steve Hamburger of Westlake has been elected to the board of directors for the Ventura County Council of Boy Scouts of America. He is director of marketing for Financial Proformas, a company that provides software to commercial lending officers.

Hamburger is head of the steering committee for Pack 3776 in Westlake and a member of the board of directors for North Ranch Country Club.
