Sinatra Shows Improvement, Doctors Say

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Frank Sinatra was making “excellent progress” after suffering a mild heart attack last week, a hospital spokesman said Monday.

Paramedics took Sinatra to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center early Thursday for what his doctor called “an uncomplicated heart attack.” It was the 81-year-old entertainer’s third hospitalization in two months.

Sinatra “is expected to be released by the end of the week,” the hospital spokesman said.

“He’s getting stronger. The doctor says the prognosis is good,” said Susan Reynolds, Sinatra’s spokeswoman.

He was hospitalized for eight days at Cedars-Sinai in November for a pinched nerve and slight pneumonia. He was hospitalized overnight last week for an undisclosed procedure.

The entertainer’s wife, Barbara, has been a nearly constant visitor. She left briefly to attend the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Gala in Palm Desert on Sunday, where she was honored for her work on behalf of abused children.

“Frank is getting stronger and hopes to be home sometime this week,” she told the audience.
