BELGRADE, Yugoslavia — The uprising against Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic drew its largest crowd Monday, when more than 400,000 people marched in the capital on the Orthodox New Year’s Eve.
The rally came despite increasing fears of a crackdown on the daily protests staged since Milosevic-controlled courts annulled opposition victories in Nov. 17 elections. “We expect Milosevic to use police to crack down on demonstrations in the next several days,” said Slobodan Vuksanovic of the coalition Zajedno (Together).
