It took a decade, but the Stars finally won in Montreal.
Rookie Jamie Langenbrunner scored the go-ahead goal on a power play in the second period as Dallas beat the Canadiens, 2-1, Monday night.
Langenbrunner swept Benoit Hogue’s cross-ice pass past goaltender Jocelyn Thibault at the 16:06 mark, giving the Stars their first victory at Montreal since Feb. 23, 1987, when the team was based in Minnesota. The Stars were 0-8-2 in their previous 10 trips to Montreal.
Ottawa 4, Boston 3--Alexandre Daigle scored with 1:22 left to give the Senators their first victory in Boston.
Adam Oates scored for Boston with 4:30 remaining to tie the game at 3-3. But a few minutes later, Daigle stole the puck at the blue line and passed to Shaun Van Allen to start the winning play.
Daigle picked up the rebound of Van Allen’s shot just off the goal line and angled it into the net.
The Senators had never beaten the Bruins in 22 games before winning in Ottawa on New Year’s Day.
Washington 6, Toronto 3--Peter Bondra extended his point-scoring streak to a career-high 10 games, scoring twice as the Capitals remained unbeaten in January with a victory at Landover, Md.
Joe Juneau had two goals and an assist as Washington improved to 4-0-2 since closing out December with a loss in Pittsburgh.
Tampa Bay 2, Chicago 0--Rick Tabaracci made 27 saves for his 10th career shutout and John Cullen scored on a 55-foot slap shot as the Lightning extended their unbeaten streak to five games at Chicago.
Rob Zamuner added a goal with 51 seconds to play for Tampa Bay, which improved to 4-0-1 since Jan. 6.
N.Y. Islanders 4, N.Y. Rangers 2--Tommy Salo outplayed Mike Richter in goal as the Islanders ended a seven-game winless streak at New York.
The Islanders jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Zigmund Palffy, Brent Hughes and Travis Green, then nearly reverted to their habit of blowing third-period leads.
But after giving up the Rangers’ second goal, by Luc Robitaille, Salo kept the Rangers from tying with a strong third period when the Islanders were outshot, 13-11.
San Jose 5, Phoenix 4--Tony Granato scored his second goal of the game with 48 seconds remaining to lead the Sharks at San Jose.
With the scored tied at 4-4, Granato scored on an assist from Bernie Nicholls and Viktor Kozlov. Nicholls had assisted on Granato’s other goal in the first period.
