Defending state champion Ventura College (19-1) remains as the top-ranked women’s basketball team in the state, but Antelope Valley (17-4) has dropped from No. 1 to No. 5 in the men’s poll after being upset by Chaffey, 99-95, last week.
Ventura (14-5), defending men’s state champion, is seventh and Valley (13-7) is 24th.
Women’s teams ranked in the top 20 include No. 3 Canyons (15-4) and No. 9 Valley (12-7).

Five Cal State Northridge football players were named to the Big Sky Conference all-academic team. They are junior offensive lineman Sean Anderson (3.06 grade-point average, political science major), junior quarterback Aaron Flowers (3.01, education), junior defensive back Bennie Herron (3.30, psychology), senior receiver Tim Hilton (3.35, finance) and junior linebacker Rob Pifferini (3.22, journalism).

Jon Garland, a 6-foot-4 right-hander who as a junior helped pitch Kennedy High to the City 4-A title last year, is listed by Baseball America magazine as the 18th-best high school baseball prospect in the nation.
