Schottenheimer, Peterson to Return

Carl Peterson, the Kansas City Chiefs’ president and general manager whose contract status had been in limbo since the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs, signed a new four-year contract with the team, the club announced.
The club also extended Coach Marty Schottenheimer’s contract for four years, putting him under contract through 2001. Schottenheimer’s contract had one year remaining.

Charger General Manager Bobby Beathard interviewed Carolina defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, 38, and Jacksonville offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, 45, on Tuesday for the vacant San Diego coaching job.
Meanwhile, strong safety Rodney Harrison, the Chargers’ leader in interceptions for two straight seasons, signed a three-year contract. He led the team with five interceptions, and his 125 tackles ranked him second behind Junior Seau. Harrison also had five interceptions in 1995 despite missing the last five games because of a knee injury.
