Gallegly Expected to Head Subcommittee

Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) is in line to chair the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee--one of several panels within the International Relations Committee on which he sits.
Gallegly said he intended to focus his attention as chairman on immigration issues, such as the effect that NAFTA has on migration. The panel has jurisdiction over U.S. relations with major trading partners Mexico and Canada.
Gallegly’s chairmanship is not official until the committee organizes next week.
