City Lowers Bus Fares for Student Tutors
Moorpark middle school students who tutor kids at an elementary school in town can now take city buses to their lessons and pay a reduced fare.
The City Council voted late Wednesday to cut the bus fare for students in the tutoring program from 75 cents--the regular fare--to 50 cents.
The move will cost the city about $600 annually, according to school district officials.
Fourteen Mesa Verde Middle School students are involved in the program in which they tutor Peach Hill School students who are having a tough time with reading and other subjects. Because of scheduling conflicts, the school district has not been able to arrange transportation for the tutors on its own buses.
