Simi Valley’s Homework Pays Off in 54-30 Victory

Looks like the scouting paid off.
Simi Valley High girls’ basketball Coach Dave Murphy had gone to see Channel Islands play . . . six times.
Thursday night, scouting and skills turned the trick for the Pioneers, who defeated Channel Islands, 54-30, in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.
Summer Page had 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Christina Mosesso had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Simi Valley (13-6, 5-1), which is tied for first with Channel Islands (12-6, 5-1) and Royal (10-5, 5-1).
Simi Valley committed a season-high 21 turnovers, but played strong defense and held the Raiders in check, including standout forward Eleanor Ecoffey, who scored only six points.
“The most surprised guy in the gym was me,” said Murphy. “They’re an awesome team.”
Agoura 51, Newbury Park 42--Nadine Levsey scored 18 points for the Panthers (4-11, 1-5), but the Chargers (8-8, 3-3), behind Julie Cox’s 12 points, won a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Kristin DeSimone had 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks for Agoura.
Royal 74, Camarillo 40--Alicia Weber scored 21 points and Jessica Sanders added 11 for the Highlanders (10-5, 5-1) in a Marmonte League victory at Royal.
Kristin Whorley led Camarillo (3-13, 0-6) with 14 points.
Thousand Oaks 50, Westlake 36--Jenn Detmer scored 20 points for the Lancers (9-5, 4-2) in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.
Kristi Valencia led the Warriors (3-12, 1-5) with 13 points.
Louisville 65, Notre Dame 50--Rosie Chingcuangco scored 20 points and had 10 steals for the Royals (11-3, 3-1) in a Mission League game at Louisville.
Becky Witt added 15 points and seven steals for Louisville.
Harvard-Westlake 65, Chaminade 37--Sophomore center Omelogo Udeze had 16 points, five steals and five blocks for the Wolverines (14-6, 3-1) in a Mission League victory at Harvard-Westlake.
Corrie Roberts scored 14 points for Harvard-Westlake, and Suzanne Wruble and Brooke Porter each added 12.
Oxnard 73, Hueneme 39--Nicole Black scored 21 points, Jaline Bradley had 15 points, six steals and seven assists, and Danielle Curtis had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (9-6, 4-1) in a Channel League game at Oxnard.
Monique Taylor scored 20 points to lead Hueneme (3-10, 0-5).
Buena 77, San Marcos 17--Nicole Greathouse had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (11-1, 5-0) in a Channel League game at Buena.
Ventura 54, Rio Mesa 38--Erin Oshita scored 15 points for the Cougars (10-4, 3-2) in a Channel League game at Ventura.
Village Christian 47, L.A. Baptist 28--Jana Largent’s 17 points and 16 rebounds paced the Crusaders (7-8, 1-0) in an Alpha League game at Village Christian.
Fillmore 60, St. Bonaventure 39--April Kozar had 22 points and 20 rebounds for the Flashes (12-4, 2-0) in a Tri-Valley League rout over the Seraphs (5-10, 1-1) at St. Bonaventure.
Christie Rosenblad had 16 points, seven assists and seven steals for Fillmore.
La Reina 35, Oak Park 32--Kindrea Cuccia had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Regents (7-4, 1-1) past the Eagles (6-8, 1-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at La Reina.
Michelle Frankson led Oak Park with nine points.
Montclair Prep 61, Campbell Hall 53--Shannon Simpson and Laura Power each had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Tiffany Groode added 14 points for the Mounties (12-3) in an overtime victory at Campbell Hall.
Emily Abrams led the Vikings with 23 points.
Bell-Jeff 86, Pius X 14--Jaclyn Johnson scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds and eight steals for the Guards (17-1, 3-0) in a Camino Real League game at Pius X.
Cheryl Flores added 19 points, seven assists and nine steals for Bell-Jeff, which held Pius X to five points in the second half.
