Kennedy Kicks Up Heels in 2-1 Victory

Carlos Perez scored in the 11th minute and Leo Garcia scored in the 69th minute to lift the Kennedy High boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Granada Hills in a Northwest Valley Conference match Thursday at Granada Hills.
Perez kicked in a rebound from close range after Highlander goalkeeper Vijay Keswani blocked a 10-yard shot by Matt Forgione.
Moments after Granada Hills’ JonPaul Roepke missed an open goal, Garcia gave the Golden Cougars (5-5-1, 3-1 in conference) a 2-0 lead with a 40-yard shot from the right wing.
Johan Perez scored in the final minute for Granada Hills (3-4-2, 1-4-1).
El Camino Real 1, Birmingham 1--Cesar Gutierrez scored on a pass from John Ortega with 25 minutes to play, lifting the Braves (6-0-2, 3-0-2) into a tie in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Birmingham.
Gerardo Herrera scored his ninth goal for El Camino Real.
Taft 1, Chatsworth 1--Cesar Pouzeaud scored on an assist from Jaime Mena in the 61st minute, pulling the Toreadors (0-3-7, 0-3-3) even in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.
The Chancellors’ Basil Grant scored a first-half goal.
San Fernando 0, Cleveland 0--Gilberto Martinez missed a penalty shot for the Tigers (0-4-3, 0-3-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match with the Cavaliers (8-1-3, 2-0-3) at Cleveland.
San Marcos 2, Buena 1--John Hodson converted a penalty kick with seven minutes to play, lifting the Chargers (12-5-2, 4-1-1) into a second-place tie with the Bulldogs (9-2-3, 4-1-1) in the Channel League at Buena.
Mike Bradbury gave Buena a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.
Rio Mesa 4, Hueneme 2--Jaime Ambriz scored his 10th, 11th and 12th goals and Adam Reeves converted a penalty kick at Hueneme, moving the Spartans (7-1-2, 4-0-2) into first place in the Channel League.
Santa Barbara 6, Oxnard 0--Dana Weymouth scored twice for the Dons (8-3-4, 2-1-2) in a Channel League match at Oxnard.
GIRLS
Poly 2, North Hollywood 0--Jessica Sierra scored her ninth and 10th goals for the Parrots (3-1-1, 2-0) in a Mid-Valley League match against the Huskies (4-1, 1-1) at Poly.
Crescenta Valley 10, Hoover 0--Stephanie Rigamat had three goals and four assists in a Pacific League match at Crescenta Valley.
Rebecca Hidalgo added two goals and two assists for the Falcons (9-2-2, 3-0).
Buena 1, San Marcos 1--Barbara Almaraz scored a second-half goal to pull the Bulldogs (10-4-2, 2-1-1) into a tie in a Channel League match at Buena.
Hueneme 2, Rio Mesa 1--Faviola Avila scored twice in the second half, giving the Vikings (1-4-2, 1-3-1) their first victory in more than two seasons at Hueneme.
Rio Mesa led, 1-0, at halftime of the Channel League match.
Santa Barbara 8, Oxnard 0--Nadine Rangel made 12 saves but the Yellowjackets (2-4-3, 0-3-3) were routed in a Channel League match at Santa Barbara.
