Simpson Jurors to Be Told to Ignore Criminal Trial

Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Hiroshi Fujisaki ruled Friday that he will emphasize to jurors in O.J. Simpson’s civil trial that they must not consider anything that happened during Simpson’s criminal trial.

In a day of legal wrangling, Fujisaki and attorneys from both sides hashed out a thick stack of jury instructions. Most are standard.

But Fujisaki agreed with the plaintiffs’ request to add language reminding jurors that the civil case has nothing to do with the criminal trial, which ended with Simpson’s acquittals in October 1995.

Fujisaki also ruled that the defense should be allowed to air its frame-up theory in full detail during closing arguments next week.

Lead plaintiff attorney Daniel M. Petrocelli had asked the judge to bar arguments that some of the evidence against Simpson was planted.

But Fujisaki decided that both sides should present their theories for jurors to weigh.
