Open registration for spring classes at North Valley Occupational Center-Pacoima Skills Center will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, school officials said.

The semester begins Feb. 3 and ends June 23. Students can enroll any time during the term if space permits.

Operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Division of Adult and Career Education, the occupational centers each offer more than 50 low-cost vocational programs to adults and some minors.

In addition to training in industrial trades, business, child care and computers, the schools offer classes in GED preparation and English as a second language. Most classes cost from $5 to $45.

“We have several new classes that we are offering this semester,” said Richard Wormus, a spokesman for the center. “We have a 10-week income tax preparation course, Saturday citizenship classes for people who are studying for their citizenship exams, and a family literacy program for parents of children in grades kindergarten through 4.”

Other new offerings include an evening course in aviation mechanics approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and a course in landscape design, Wormus said.

Registration at West Valley Occupational Center will begin Jan. 28 for industrial and trade occupations and Jan. 29 for business and office occupations. Open registration for all classes will begin Jan. 30.
