Marilyn Buchi, a trustee of Fullerton Joint Union High School District, has been chosen to represent Orange County on a statewide panel that school boards look to for direction.
Buchi will be the California School Boards Assn.’s director for Region 15, which encompasses all of Orange County. Buchi, 59, was chosen for her new assignment by two dozen other Orange County school board members who serve as delegates of the region.
The association, based in Sacramento, offers educational leadership and training for board members across the state and is active in recommending legislation that sets the education agenda for California.
“I’m really looking forward to the responsibility of being on the board,” Buchi said.
She said one of the first issues she may be tackling as a state board director is class reduction, as officials seek to reduce enrollment to 10 pupils per teacher in first- and second-grade classes.
Buchi also will serve on a committee that studies “health or any condition that would be a detriment to a child’s ability to learn,” she said.
Buchi has been on the Fullerton high school board for 13 years and has been president several times. She is also a volunteer for several parent-teacher associations and local charities that help youth.
