Wally Rose, 83, pianist who played with jazz notables Lu Watters and Turk Murphy. In addition to playing with Watters’ Yerba Buena Jazz Band, Rose performed alongside Murphy, Bob Scobey and Clancy Hayes. A native of Oakland, Rose began by studying classical piano. He made more than a hundred records for Columbia and Good Time Jazz, and performed at the Newport Jazz Festival and with the San Francisco Symphony. On Sunday in Walnut Creek, Calif., of cancer.
