Aftershock Hits on 3rd Anniversary of Quake

Three years to the day from the Northridge earthquake, a mild aftershock rippled through an area six miles north of Simi Valley on Friday.

The 3.0 shaker hit at 4:44 p.m., according to a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey--well below the 6.7 of the destructive temblor on Jan. 17, 1994.

“This is considered to be an aftershock to the Northridge earthquake,” the seismologist said.

The Simi Valley and Ventura County fire departments said no damage had been reported and there were no reports anyone felt the small quake.

To date, there have been nearly 13,000 aftershocks of the Northridge quake.
