Gun Control

* In his column “To Build a Better America, Pack Heat” (Jan. 9), Scott Harris cites an NRA-lauded study that argues that concealed handguns would have spared the lives of 1,570 murder victims since 1992. “Shabby social science” is how another expert dismisses this study.
It is worse than that. It is a scurrilous attempt to float gun advocacy on a sea of blood. As Harris notes, there were fewer murders in Florida yet double the rate in West Virginia [after enactment of permissive carry laws]. Gun control has serious flaws, but let us never again let the NRA get away with accusing its opponents of pushing a perilous agenda.
