Anaheim Caught Up in the Web

Re “After a Slow Start, Cities Discover Web,” Jan. 5:
Anaheim has also experienced problems with others who have claimed a preferred Web site address. When the city was unable to secure its first choice, we looked for a simple and memorable alternative to what we were using at the time and found https://www.Anaheim.net was available.
We have linked it with our old address so that citizens with either the old or the new address can now find the city’s official Web site automatically.
Like many other cities, Anaheim is excited about using the Internet as a new way to reach a variety of audiences, and with good reason.
Anaheim’s Web site was launched in November 1995 and had 700 hits in its first month of existence. By promoting the city’s Web site address to a variety of key audiences, there has been an exponential growth in the number of hits on the site. This past December, we enjoyed our best month ever, with 63,632 hits in a single month.
As technology continues to improve, Anaheim’s site will continue to evolve. Although we viewed the Internet with some skepticism 18 months ago, we now embrace it with unabashed enthusiasm.
