Kingsmen Come Up Short

Cal Lutheran overcame a 12-point deficit to take a one-point lead with under a minute left to play but couldn’t hang on and lost to Claremont Mudd, 70-68, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday night at Claremont.
The Kingsmen have lost four of five.
Cal Lutheran (9-5, 1-2 in conference) led, 68-67, on Johnny Allen’s two free throws with 41 seconds to go.
But Claremont’s Jeremy Vandervoert made a basket to put the Stags (2-12, 1-2) ahead, 69-68, and later made a free throw to seal the victory.
Vandervoert finished with 19 points. Allen scored 10 points.
The Kingsmen fell behind, 25-13, but cut the margin to two (37-35) by halftime.
Glendale 64, Hancock 61--Shawn Hackett made a three-point shot with eight seconds left to play to give the Vaqueros the victory in a WSC interdivisional game at Glendale.
Glendale (8-13) got 24 points from Ryan Sylva and 17 points from Juan Corleto.
Hackett had five points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Weber State 76, CS Northridge 59--Sarah Hagman scored 17 points for Northridge in a Big Sky Conference game at Weber State.
Sarah Bell added 11 points for the Matadors (3-13, 1-5).
Stephanie Sorenson scored 19 points for Weber State (7-9, 2-4).
Pepperdine 58, Loyola Marymount 54--Angie White scored 16 points and Lisa Siders had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Pepperdine in a West Coast Conference game at Pepperdine (10-6, 2-2).
Taryn Roberts scored a career-high 23 points for Loyola Marymount (3-13, 2-2).
Cuesta 65, Valley 57--Shawanda Hotchkiss scored 21 points and Jacque Tennies had 12 points and 20 rebounds, but the Monarchs fell in a Western State Conference interdivisional game at Valley.
Cuesta (17-4), ranked seventh in the state, led most of the game.
Valley (14-8), ranked ninth, cut the deficit to three points with 4 1/2 minutes to play, but the Monarchs could get no closer.
Tanya McGlaughlin scored 12 points for Valley. Nece Bonds led Cuesta with 25 points.
Canyons 88, Santa Barbara 33--Gohar Tumanian led Canyons (17-4) with 22 points in a WSC interdivisional game at Canyons.
LaCresha Clark contributed 15 points, nine assists and six steals for the Cougars.
Danielle Wiggins led Santa Barbara (9-9) with 10 points.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
CS Northridge 78, Loyola Marymount 37--Julie White won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams for the Matadors in a nonconference meet at Northridge.
White won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle in 55.60 and 1:58.75, respectively.
She was part of the Matadors’ 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay.
Northridge’s Katrina Reynoso won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.81 and the 1,000 freestyle in 11:16.22, and teammate Heather Burton won the 100 (1:04.28) and the 200 (2:13.59) backstroke. Gina Volpe won the 100 butterfly (1:04.00).
