Utah State Gets Past New Mexico State, 71-68

LOGAN, Utah — Marcus Saxon scored 21 points, including the last 10 of the game for Utah State, as the Aggies edged New Mexico State, 71-68, Saturday night to stay undefeated in the Big West Conference.
Utah State (12-4, 5-0 in conference) moved into first place in the East conference standings with the victory.
New Mexico State (7-7, 1-3) led, 64-58, with six minutes left, but was only able to score four more points, while Utah State dropped in 13--including three three-pointers.
In addition to Saxon’s 21, Justin Jones scored 18 points, all on three-pointers. Antwan Smith had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
New Mexico State was led by Antoine Hubbard with 15 points, while the visitors’ usual leading scorer, Louis Richardson (averaging 20 per game) was held to only four.
Jones broke a 68-68 tie with 2:50 left the game on his sixth three-pointer. New Mexico State had three chances to tie the score, but three-point shots by Tobias Lampkin, Hubbard and Denmark Reid all fell short.
