Magazine Faults Airport Security

Security at many airports around the world remains inadequate, and 8,000 unaccompanied bags find their way onto international flights every day, a leading British consumer magazine said this month.
Most countries have failed to introduce legislation requiring the screening of all hold baggage on international flights, Holiday Which? magazine said. Many European airports screen only 5% to 10% of luggage in a plane’s hold, although the numbers may be higher for high-risk flights, it added.
“One of the major stumbling blocks--other arguments include cost and flight delays--is that there is no international body with the power to enforce security standards,” the magazine said.
