Been There, Done That

I note with satisfaction that over some 40 years of travel, my wife and I have visited all the “favorite destinations” mentioned in your “Turning 2000” article (Dec. 29): the South Pacific, the Egyptian Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Ngorongoro Crater and Machu Picchu. In fact, while waiting in the Cuzco station for the train taking us up the mountain, I couldn’t resist asking a passing porter: “Pardon me--is that the Machu Picchu choo-choo?”

Though I know that the new century and millennium don’t actually start until 2001, at my advanced age I’m going for the earlier date!
