Group Hands Out Awards in Fight Against Drunk Driving

A Glendale woman, the California Highway Patrol and Hughes Electronics were named as the first recipients of the L.A. Challenge Spirit Awards honoring local campaigns against drunk driving.
The awards will be presented Friday at a dinner marking the conclusion of the L.A. Challenge project, which was sponsored by Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes Against Drunk Driving (RADD).
Annie Van Bebber of Glendale won the Individual Spirit award for launching L.A. Challenge’s cyberspace campaign, sponsored by America Online’s Digital City Los Angeles.
Hughes Electronics won the Group Spirit--Private Sector award for bringing RADD’s message to the workplace through 25,000 incentive cards that were distributed to its employees.
The CHP won the Group Spirit--Public Sector award for leading a recruitment effort that encouraged bars and restaurants to provide free soft drinks to designated drivers.
