Wilmington Senior Citizens Center Will Be Constructed at Banning Park
- Share via
Banning Park is home to one of the oldest houses in Wilmington, the Banning Residence Museum, built in 1864 by Gen. Phineas Banning.
By 1999, it also will be home to a 10,000-square-foot senior citizens center with meeting rooms, craft rooms, offices, a stage and a kitchen.
The Wilmington Senior Citizens Center is currently housed inside a 3,300-square-foot house on Avalon Boulevard, where space is at a premium. After a two-year search, Banning Park was selected as the site for a new center because it is close to bus lines and the city already owns the land.
The $2-million center is scheduled to open before the end of 1998.
