Wilson: Success Is No Fluke

The Mighty Ducks reached the all-star break with only 17 victories and were locked in a three-way tie for ninth place in the Western Conference. But Coach Ron Wilson said they are poised to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
“We’re in great shape,” Wilson said. “No one is saying, ‘We’ve got to get going.’ We’re right there.
“It’s a slow process when you have the [1-9-2] start we had. Everyone’s going to have to forget the first 10 or 13 games. We’re not that team. The last 30 games we’ve been well over .500. It’s not a fluke. It’s not a two-week thing. It’s 2 1/2 months that we’ve been on a .580 pace.”
The Ducks are 16-13-3 since Nov. 1.

Teemu Selanne has at least one point in eight consecutive games. He has had two nine-game streaks already this season. . . . Rookie right wing Frank Banham, sidelined because of a groin injury since training camp, has been skating with the Ducks in hopes of soon joining Baltimore of the American Hockey League.
