Arredondo’s 2 Goals Help Fillmore Stay Unbeaten

Senior midfielder Martin Arredondo scored his eighth and ninth goals Tuesday to help the Fillmore High boys’ soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Bishop Diego in a Tri-Valley League match at Fillmore.
The Flashes (9-0, 6-0 in league play) continue a surprising turnaround after going 10-19-2 overall and 5-15-2 in league play the past two seasons.
Arredondo opened the scoring in the 10th minute and Bishop Diego’s Clay Murdy converted a penalty kick two minutes later for a 1-1 halftime tie.
Angel Aguilar, Arredondo, Rafael Laureano and Francisco Zavala scored second-half goals for Fillmore. Zavala, a sophomore forward, has 10 goals and has scored in all but one match. Ivan Cruz scored for the Cardinals (4-5-1, 2-3).
“I just keep holding my breath; I don’t want to ruin anything,” first-year Fillmore Coach Kevin Jauch said. “These guys play so well together that I just fill up the water bottles and try to stay out of the way.”
Burroughs 2, Valencia 0--Roman Browne and Brent Guido scored first-half goals for the Indians (11-5-2, 3-0-1) in a Foothill League match at Valencia. Jose Munoz recorded his seventh shutout.
Saugus 3, Canyon 0--Jeff Hammond scored twice and J.D. Rotteau scored once for the Centurions (13-2-3, 3-0-1) in a Foothill League victory over the Cowboys (10-6, 2-2) at Saugus.
Hart 5, Burbank 1--Jorge Ledesma scored twice to lead the Indians (6-4-7, 1-2-1) to a Foothill League rout of the Bulldogs (4-8-1, 0-3-1) at Burbank.
Dos Pueblos 0, Rio Mesa 0--Christian Zuniga made nine saves for the Spartans (8-1-3, 4-0-3) in a Channel League match at Rio Mesa.
Cleveland 1, Kennedy 1--Payman Karbalai scored with about 20 minutes to play, lifting the Cavaliers into a Northwest Valley Conference tie.
Matt Forgione scored in the 16th minute for Kennedy (6-5-2, 3-0-2).
San Fernando 3, Chatsworth 1--Manuel Velasquez, Julio Velasquez and Jesus Garcia scored to lift the Tigers (1-4-3, 1-3-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at San Fernando.
Chatsworth’s Basil Grant converted a second-half penalty kick.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Crescenta Valley 10, Glendale O--Stephanie Rigamat scored four goals in the first 15 minutes and finished with six in 25 minutes to lead the Falcons (10-2-2, 4-0) over the Dynamiters (1-2-1, 1-2-1) in a Pacific League match at Crescenta Valley.
Monroe 5, Reseda 0--Ruth Hebert scored her 10th and 11th goals to lead the Vikings (5-1, 3-0) in a Mid-Valley League match at Reseda.
Dos Pueblos 3, Rio Mesa 2--Robyn Roberts and Renee Shadforth gave the Spartans (2-9-3, 0-5-2) a 2-1 halftime lead but the Chargers rallied, getting the winning goal from Maureen Smith with five minutes to play.
Hart 5, Burbank 0--Mandy Stupar scored three goals for the Indians (13-1-2, 4-0) in a Foothill League match at Hart.
Canyon 5, Saugus 1--Gentry Green scored two goals for the Cowboys (10-3-3, 3-1) in a Foothill League match at Canyon.
Kim Wright scored for Saugus (7-3-2, 2-1-1).
Lancaster 3, Antelope Valley 2--Jeanette Gomez scored with a minute remaining to give the Eagles (7-8-1, 1-1) a comeback victory over the Antelopes (3-5, 1-1) in a Golden League match at Lancaster.
Stephanie Nelson scored twice to help Lancaster overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 106, Pacific Christian 77--Bill Oates celebrated his 100th career coaching victory at Master’s and his 123rd overall in a nonconference game at Master’s.
Mike Penberthy scored 17 points, including four three-point baskets, to lead the Mustangs (13-6). Sean Davis had 16 points and Jeff Mobley added 15.
