Carroll, Belichick Might Get Jobs

Bill Parcells is expected to tell his team minutes after the Super Bowl that he is leaving, and while he’s expected to become the New York Jets’ coach, there’s talk that San Francisco defensive coordinator Pete Carroll will be his replacement in New England and Patriot defensive coordinator Bill Belichick will become the Oakland Raiders’ coach.

The “Belichick-to-the-Raiders” rumors are wonderful. Given Belichick’s sour personality and reluctance to communicate with the media, he would appear to have been auditioning all his life to be the Raiders’ next coach.

“Right now I’m here to focus on the Green Bay Packers and that’s what I’m here to talk about, not last year, not next year and not 1983,” Belichick said.

John Madden, former Raider coach and now broadcaster for Fox, has studied Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre and says it’s obvious Favre has no idea where his first five passes are going in a game because of his initial level of excitement.

“If you want to get him, get him in those first five passes,” Madden said, “because after that it can be a very long day.”

The Packers lost wide receiver Derrick Mayes because of a rib injury suffered in practice Wednesday. No decision has been made on his status for the game.

Favre purchased 40 tickets for friends and family. He had to pay $11,000 to get them.

The media have been making the trek to Kiln, Miss., all week to see where Favre was raised.

“I was going to go out there and eat with my family, but after talking to them I decided not to,” Favre said. “It’s crazy, it’s become kind of like Graceland.”
