Poly Puts North Hollywood Under in Overtime

Eric Owens and Ellis Richardson are starting to enjoy the idea of working overtime.
They combined for 50 points Wednesday and helped Poly High to a 79-73 overtime victory over North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 Conference boys’ basketball game at Poly High.
It was Poly’s second overtime victory in as many games. On Friday, Poly (12-5, 3-0 in league play) defeated Canoga Park, 101-94, in double overtime.
Owens, who scored six points in overtime, finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Richardson had 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Jon Hicks had 22 points for North Hollywood (6-10, 0-3).
In other Valley Pac-8 Conference games:
Grant 74, Reseda 54--Gilbert Arenas had 36 points, including five three-point baskets, for the Lancers (5-10, 2-1) at Reseda.
Canoga Park 68, Van Nuys 59--Carloes Harper had 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and eight blocks at Canoga Park to help the Hunters (10-8, 2-1) reverse the outcome of last year’s City Section 3-A Division final.
David Redmond of Canoga Park scored two points and was ejected in the third quarter for fighting with Gary Long of Van Nuys.
Monroe 76, Sylmar 71--Mark Cumbiss scored 23 points and the Vikings (5-11, 2-1) held the Spartans (8-8, 2-1) scoreless in the first quarter at Sylmar.
In other games:
Birmingham 39, Kennedy 36--Stanley Fletcher had 13 points and Emmanuel Evans added 12 for the visiting Braves (12-6, 2-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
San Fernando 62, Taft 52--Luis De La Rosa scored 25 points to lead the Tigers (8-8, 2-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft.
Granada Hills 80, Chatsworth 70--Desmond Williams had 15 points for the Highlanders (10-7, 2-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
La Canada 58, Temple City 53-- Mike Riddell’s layup with five seconds to play preserved a Rio Hondo League victory for the Spartans (13-7, 3-1) at La Canada.
Channel Islands 62, Camarillo 61--Bernabe Simon had 26 points, including a three-point basket with eight seconds left, to help the Raiders (14-3, 4-3) rally from a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
Newbury Park 70, Thousand Oaks 43--Daniel Bobik scored 18 points at Thousand Oaks to help the Panthers (11-7, 5-2) gain a first-place tie in the Marmonte League.
Ventura 79, Oxnard 66--Brandon Gallagher broke Coach Dan Larson’s school record of 20 rebounds--set in 1977--with 21 and his brother, Christian, scored 22 points for the Cougars (9-9, 3-4) in a Channel League game at Ventura.
