Fred M. Riedman, 93, lawyer and rancher who founded one of Long Beach’s oldest law firms. A native of Valley City, N.D., he moved to Long Beach with his family in 1914. Educated at the University of Redlands and USC Law School, Riedman set up his practice in the Ocean Center Building of downtown Long Beach in 1931. He semiretired in the 1960s but remained as counsel to what is now the firm of Riedman, Dalessi & Dybens. Riedman had vast ranches and farms in the San Joaquin and Imperial valleys, where he ran several thousand head of cattle and raised quarter horses and thoroughbreds. Himself a horseman, Riedman was a charter member and president of the Long Beach Mounted Police and active in Los Charros riding group. He once rode the entire length of the John Muir Trail using a string of his own horses, and at age 83 he rode across Inner Mongolia. On Saturday in Long Beach.
