2 Local Panels Seek to Change Election Year

The Oak Park school board and the local Municipal Advisory Council would move their odd-year elections from November of this year to November of 1998 under a proposal being considered by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.
The school board and advisory council requested the change because it would save them about $4,000 per election, said County Clerk and Recorder Richard Dean. Most county cities and school boards hold their elections during even years, which increases voter turnout and saves costs, he said.
The terms of school board members and members of the advisory council, which makes recommendations to the supervisor that represents the district, would be extended a year under the proposal, Dean said.
The supervisors will consider the election change at their Tuesday meeting.
