International Cup in Anaheim Features a Dozen 1996 Olympians

Twelve 1996 Olympians, six of them members of the gold-medal winning U.S. women’s gymnastics team, will compete tonight at 7 in the fourth Reese’s International Gymnastics Cup at Anaheim Convention Center.

Team gold medalists Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Dominique Moceanu, Amy Chow, Amanda Borden and Jaycie Phelps from the United States will join all-around Olympic champion Lilia Podkopayeva of Ukraine and 1996 Reese’s Cup champion Kristie Phillips in the women’s field.

On the men’s side, five 1996 U.S. Olympians--John Roethlisberger, Chainey Umphrey, Mihai Bagiu, John Macready and Kip Simons--will compete with 1988 gold medalist Dmitri Bilozerchev of Russia, 1994 World Championships silver medalist Paul O’Neill and 1992 Olympian Chris Waller.

Gymnasts will compete in pairs and perform two exercises each.

The top scoring male and female pairs will be named champions.
