GARDEN GROVE — A suspected car thief, fleeing police, abandoned a car and ran through the patios and on the roofs of several homes in Buena Park before an armed resident stopped him and turned him over to police.
The man stole a 1984 Toyota minivan from a bank parking lot on Garden Grove Boulevard on Friday, Garden Grove police said. Minutes later, Cypress police spotted the vehicle on Knott Avenue at the Buena Park border.
The thief jumped out of the vehicle and dashed into a gated community off Orange Avenue in Buena Park, police said. After running through several properties, the man was confronted by an armed resident. He fled, but was soon confronted again by the resident shortly before police arrived on the scene.
Police arrested Arturo Pena, 25, of Stanton, in connection with the auto theft. Police wouldn’t identify the resident.
