A Super Primer for XXXI : READY FOR PRIME TIME PLAYERS

Projected Packer MVP
Brett Favre, Quarterback
He has the ability to score for both teams, but more than that he already has the voters poised to deliver him the Rozelle Trophy because of his track record as the NFL’s most valuable player the past two years. Would you vote for a head case such as Andre Rison if Favre, who overcame an addiction to painkillers, was throwing the passes? The Packers are supposed to dominate, but before handing Favre the keys to a new car, a word of caution: The Patriots’ defense has not allowed a quarterback to throw for more than one touchdown in a game since Oct. 27 against Buffalo.
Sleeper pick for MVP
Don Beebe, Wide Receiver
OK, so the guy might not play more than a few plays if all is going well for the Cheeselugs and Favre is throwing to Rison and Antonio Freeman, but here’s the made-for-TV movie: The guy who lost four Super Bowls while in Buffalo rises from the dead to be hailed as Titletown’s conquering hero. If the Packers fall behind, Beebe, who is still one of the fastest players in the game, has a better chance of contributing and winning acclaim. And if the Packers fall behind it probably will be because of Favre’s errors, which will hurt his MVP chances, opening the door for Beebe.
