Driving Ambition Satisfied in Vegas

Do you harbor fantasies of roaring around a world-class racetrack in a vehicle to match? Visitors can do just that by taking driving lessons at the Autopian Motorsports Country Club at the new $200-million Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Taught in Formula 3000 cars, instruction ranges from a three-hour introductory class ($375) to a three-day program ($2,195). The speedway has 24 dirt and paved tracks.
Classes teach race-car-driver wannabes how to bank on turns, pass on straightaways and practice skid control. But the bottom-line appeal may be a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get in a formula racing car,” as a spokeswoman put it.
Club membership is not a prerequisite for taking lessons. Reservations: (702) 644-7223.
