Police Department to Get 5 New Cars

The Police Department will soon be getting five new unmarked cars. The City Council has approved a $85,499 contract to purchase the vehicles. Four of them will replace older models now being used by the detective bureau and personnel-training staff. The other will be assigned to the patrol bureau for community-oriented policing, Police Chief Daryl Wicker said.
The council earmarked $92,000 in the 1996-97 city budget for new police cars. Wicker said five auto companies competed on the contract, with the lowest bid submitted by Fairway Ford of Placentia. The council unanimously accepted that proposal.
