Agent Steinberg Named in Lawsuit

From a Times Staff Writer

An Orange County man has filed a negligence suit against sports agent Leigh Steinberg, who was cited for drunk driving when he rear-ended the man’s car in September.

Robert Aguirre filed the suit Friday in Orange County Superior Court. Steinberg was arrested at the scene of the crash on West Coast Highway in Newport Beach.

Police described the incident at the time as a minor collision without injuries.

Steinberg, a Newport Beach resident, represents a gallery of superstar athletes, including football stars Steve Young, Troy Aikman and Desmond Howard, the latter named this week as the Super Bowl’s most valuable player.

The 47-year-old Steinberg said in a public statement in September that he was intoxicated when he left a charity fund-raiser and crashed, and he apologized for not acting “as a role model should.”
