A 16-year-old boy being held in a Milwaukee jail on charges of shooting high school senior Corie Williams to death on an MTA bus could be extradited to Los Angeles as early as next week, police said Monday.
Milwaukee police working with the FBI arrested the youth early Saturday after Los Angeles Police Department investigators received information that the teenager might be hiding in Wisconsin, LAPD Lt. John Dunkin said.
An unidentified adult living in Wisconsin but originally from Los Angeles was arrested at the same time and could face charges of aiding the fugitive, Dunkin said.
Last week, LAPD detectives arrested three juveniles and one adult in their alleged roles in the Jan. 16 crime, which authorities say began when a suspected gang member saw a rival aboard the bus; a cohort standing at Avalon Boulevard and Imperial Highway in South-Central Los Angeles fired a semiautomatic handgun through the bus windows.
Corie, 17, died after the shooting; her friend, Tammi Freeman, was wounded.
Dunkin said police also continue to hunt for Wilbert Eric Pugh, 20, the man who allegedly instigated the fray by boarding the bus and challenging a gang rival. The LAPD has said all six suspects could be charged with murder.
