Community Center Planned for Park

While the future of La Mirada Regional Park remains unclear, at least some of its 100 acres may will be used for a community and senior citizens center, officials have indicated.
County Supervisor Don Knabe has given La Mirada preliminary approval for the proposed center, one of the city’s key concerns in discussions over whether the county should turn over ownership of the entire park to the community.
City Manager Gary Sloan said the center’s design is still sketchy, but it would provide badly needed space for community programs.
Meanwhile, county parks officials are negotiating with La Mirada, Cerritos and seven other cities about giving them control over nine county parks.
