Pacifica Boys Take Over League Lead With Victory

The Pacifica boys’ basketball team took sole possession of first place in the Garden Grove League by defeating La Quinta, 80-51, Monday at Pacifica.
Brad Mastros scored 17 points, including three three-pointers, as the Mariners avenged a 50-49 overtime loss in the league opener. Adam Rachlin had 12 points and Jeff Swan had 11 for Pacifica (12-9, 6-1), which made 21 of 29 two-point shots and seven of 16 three-pointers.
Danny Cotto scored 13 for La Quinta (13-8, 5-2).
In another league game:
Santiago 67, Rancho Alamitos 63--Aris Lindo scored 11 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead Santiago (7-11, 3-4).
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
Rancho Alamitos 36, Santiago 35--Araceli Hernandez scored 16 points and Rancho Alamitos (9-11, 6-1) outscored Santiago 10-3 in the fourth quarter. Stacey Trujillo led Santiago (11-9, 4-3) with 12 points.
In Century League boys’ soccer:
El Modena 2, Santa Ana Valley 2--Gabe Mejia tied the score for El Modena (10-2-3, 3-1-1) with seconds left in the game. Teammate John Chavez gave El Modena a 1-0 halftime lead.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 1, Cypress O--Brian DaPaola scored three minutes into the game for El Dorado, which recorded its 14th shutout.
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 2, Buena Park 1--Paul Summers scored from the left corner with about eight minutes left to break a 1-1 tie for host La Habra (6-5-1, 1-3).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 2, Magnolia 1--Brandon Tellez and Daniel Flores each scored goals for visiting Brea Olinda (9-2-4, 2-1-1).
In the South Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 2, Capistrano Valley 1--Jon Pardes scored the winning goal in extra time, as Trabuco Hills (5-9, 1-3) upset fifth-ranked Capistrano Valley (12-3-2, 2-2). Trabuco Hills goalie Jay Arnston had eight saves.
In Garden Grove League girls’ soccer:
Pacifica 6, La Quinta 0--Amanda Freed led Pacifica (10-6, 7-0) with three goals.
In the Sunset League:
Los Alamitos 1, Huntington Beach 0--Cyndi Tredway scored off an assist from Sommer Hammoud with five minutes remaining for fourth-ranked Los Alamitos (15-3-2, 5-0). The goal is Tredway’s 15th of season. Goalkeeper Jenny Willemse recorded her 12th shutout.
