Today offers a couple of record-reaching opportunities in girls’ basketball. Capistrano Valley’s Jenny Jennings needs two three-point field goals to reach 105, tying Debbie Fischer (Edison, 1989-90) for the single-season county record. Jennings will try to do it beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Dana Hills.
Second-ranked Brea Olinda (17-2, 5-0 in the Orange League) should tie the Southern Section record for consecutive league victories (97), when it hosts Magnolia (2-15, 1-4) at 7 p.m. The Ladycats can break the record Tuesday at home against Western.
Brea gets a bigger test Saturday, when it plays at Ventura Buena at 8 p.m. Brea and Buena began the season ranked 1-2 in the state. Locally, third-ranked Woodbridge (15-4, 5-0) plays fourth-ranked Mater Dei (14-5, 5-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Nike Extravaganza II at the Bren Center.
