Eighth-ranked Newport Harbor (7-3, 4-1 in the Sea View League), which found its way into the county’s top 10 rankings for the first time this week, will attempt to remain in first place in the league standings when it hosts Santa Margarita (10-7-1, 2-2-1) at 4:45 p.m. Friday.

Newport Harbor, picked by coaches to finish in the lower half of the league, has been one of the season’s biggest surprises. The Sailors are led by forward Garrett Jansma, who orally committed to play at California.

Santa Margarita also has been hot. After starting 0-2-1 in league, the Eagles upset seventh-ranked Woodbridge, 1-0, and beat Irvine, 4-1.
