Miller’s Foul Shots Cap Ventura Rally

Eddie Miller made two free throws with 15 seconds to play to complete Ventura College’s 72-71 comeback victory over Oxnard in a Western State Conference Northern Division men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Oxnard.
Miller, a 6-foot-8 forward from Chatsworth High, had 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Ventura (17-6, 3-0 in division play) overcame a 14-point halftime deficit with defensive pressure in the second half.
Leland Mayes had 28 points for Oxnard.
Valley 84, Glendale 56--The Monarchs took a 16-4 lead and never trailed in a WSC Southern Division game at Valley.
Gianandrea Marcaccini scored 17 points and Leon Brisport had 15 points, eight rebounds and six blocks for Valley (16-9, 2-1).
Carl Biel had 22 points for Glendale (9-15, 1-2).
Antelope Valley 122, Barstow 86--John Burrell scored 32 points on 13-of-18 shooting for the Marauders (21-4, 2-0) in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.
Cal Lutheran 58, Occidental 55--Andy Saint had 11 points and eight rebounds to help the Kingsmen (12-5, 4-2) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Occidental.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Valley 70, Glendale 61--Lisa Nielsen had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Monarchs (17-8, 4-0), who were without five players because of flu, in a WSC Southern Division game at Valley.
Ventura 97, Oxnard 16--Kara Newman scored 14 points to help the Pirates (24-1, 3-0), ranked No. 1 in the state, to their 17th consecutive victory in the WSC Northern Division game at Oxnard.
Canyons 122, West L.A. 34--Gohar Tumanian had 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals for the Cougars (21-4, 4-0) in a WSC Southern Division game at Canyons.
Moorpark 74, Santa Barbara City 52--Corey Phillips scored 28 points, making all 12 of her free throws, for the Raiders (13-8, 2-1) in a WSC Southern Division game at Moorpark.
Antelope Valley 61, Rio Hondo 48--Chanel Edwards scored 19 points for the Marauders (10-12, 6-4) in the Foothill Conference game at Rio Hondo.
