Van Exel Has Written Off SuperSonics

His bold play of late--20.2 points, 8.8 assists and 51.3% from the field the last five games--has come with a bold prediction.
The Lakers, Nick Van Exel said, will win the Pacific Division.
“Definitely,” he said.
Their lead over Seattle for first place is 1 1/2 games, but he has sent word for the SuperSonics, the defending Western Conference champions, to give up the chase and rest for the playoffs.
“I just know it,” Van Exel said. “If I’m wrong? I doubt it. If I’m wrong, what? I’ll buy everybody on Seattle what they want. Less than $100.”
What’s the going rate for a new bulletin board? The one the SuperSonics already had is suddenly full.

Robert Horry sat out a second consecutive game because of the sprained left ankle suffered Sunday. But now the schedule works in his favor: The Lakers are off today, practice Friday and Saturday and don’t play again until Sunday night, against the Washington Bullets at the Forum.
