Cal State Picks Acting VP for Student Affairs

Robert A. Emry, chairman of Cal State Fullerton’s speech communication department, has been appointed acting vice president for student affairs while the university continues a national search for someone to fill the job.
The appointment takes effect today. Emry succeeds Robbie L. Nayman, who retired after six years in the position.
Emry, who led an effort to establish a community forum bringing together the campus and the community to discuss topics of common interest, joined the faculty in 1973 after earning a doctorate in speech communications from the University of Kansas.
His new duties include supervising a 120-member staff and assuming responsibility for a$5-million annual budget for career development, disabled student services, financial aid, international education, health, counseling and testing.
“Student affairs is in a key position to demonstrate to our external communities that Cal State Fullerton prides itself on being a community-based university,” Emry said.
