Group Fights Plan for 14-Story Condo Complex

Westwood residents who oppose construction of a 14-story condominium complex on Wilshire Boulevard will travel to a public hearing Aug. 4 to voice their concerns, a neighborhood organizer said Thursday.
Laura Lake, president of Friends of Westwood, said her group opposes any development that exceeds a six-story height limit established by the city in 1980.
About 50 residents appeared at an initial hearing before the city office of zoning administration July 30 to oppose a developer’s application to exceed the height limit, Lake said. She expects an equal turnout at the West Los Angeles Municipal Building on Monday.
Howard Gantman, a spokesman for Councilman Mike Feuer, said Thursday that Feuer will oppose the requested variance at the hearing.
Lake added: “We’re re-fighting a fight we had more than a decade ago so we wouldn’t have a concrete canyon.”
