Four people have been arrested on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine after police found a clandestine laboratory, complete with enough chemicals to make up to 5 pounds of the drug, in an apartment late Wednesday.
Officers raiding the cramped unit at 12092 Adrian St. were initially overcome by fumes from the potent chemicals but were not hospitalized, police said.
“The three who did feel some discomfort were checked out by Fire Department personnel and are doing fine,” Police Lt. John Woods said.
The arrests followed a two-week undercover investigation that led detectives to the apartment building, where they watched three men and a woman carry items “consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine” into the unit Wednesday night, Woods said. Officers obtained a search warrant and went inside about 10 p.m. The four occupants fled on foot but were arrested outside, police said.
Detectives seized more than a pound of methamphetamine powder, one gallon of liquid methamphetamine and two ounces of cocaine, Woods said. The estimated street value of the drugs is $20,000.
The names of the suspects have not been released.
