How 5 Escaped Fiery FedEx Plane Crash

With flames closing in around them, five people aboard a FedEx cargo plane pushed open a cockpit window and crawled to safety after the jet crashed and flipped over during a landing attempt at Newark International Airport. By the time rescuers arrived, the two crew members and three passengers were standing on the runway watching the wreckage burn. The crash shut down the New York area’s busiest airport for hours, canceling hundreds of flights and scrambling travel plans for 8,000 passengers. The MD-11 jet came down hard during a landing and stopped 100 yards from a terminal. Authorities were seeking the cause of the crash.
