Lancaster Wins on Cruz Control

Cirilio Cruz singled home Joe Mathis and Jason Regan with two out in the top of the ninth inning to give the Lancaster JetHawks a 7-5 victory over the San Bernardino Stampede on Thursday night in a California League baseball game before 3,463 at San Bernardino Stadium.
Cruz’s hit capped a three-run rally by the JetHawks (59-52 overall, 26-15 in the second half) and came after San Bernardino reliever Chris Ochsenfeld (0-1) walked in Josh Watts with the game-tying run.
Watts was pinch running for Shawn Buhner, who singled to start the inning.
Mathis had three hits, drove in a run and scored another run for Lancaster. Regan had two hits and scored two runs.
Brian Sweeney (5-1) got the victory in relief of starter Joe Mays and Denny Bonilla picked up his fourth save.
San Bernardino scored all of its runs in the second to take 5-1 lead.
Murph Proctor had three hits and scored a run for the Stampede.

SINGLE A--Left-fielder Mike Glendenning (Crespi, Pierce College) hit his 26th home run to help Bakersfield defeat Stockton, 3-2. Glendenning is in a three-way tie for the home run lead in the California League. . . . First baseman Nate Dishington (Hoover) hit his 21st home run and knocked in four runs in Prince William’s 12-0 rout of Wilmington. Teammate Adam Kennedy (Cal State Northridge) played shortstop and had three hits. . . . Clinton first baseman Peter Paciorek (Glendale College) hit a triple and had three RBIs in a 19-5 victory over Fort Wayne.
